Why Honeymoon in Canggu?
Canggu is the most hip and up-and-coming location on the island of Bali. Not too long ago, only surfers knew about this black sand beach village. In a few years, it has become the most popular destination for a hip, young crowd of digital nomads and surfers - and it’s definitely not a small village anymore. Canggu has an amazing food culture, is a great place to learn and improve your surfing skills and perfect for boutique shopping. If you would like to have a party during your honeymoon in Canggu, or visit a beach club with your partner, the options here are endless!
Explore Canggu
The two main areas in Canggu are Batu Bolong and Berawa. Batu Bolong is the most popular place to stay for visitors. It has the most beach clubs and restaurants. The black sand Batu Bolong Beach is the best for surfing. Here you can watch surfers or try to catch some waves together with your partner. If you are new to surfing this is a great place to start? Some parts of Batu Bolong beach offer gentle waves that are great for beginner surfers, and most board rental shops offer lessons. For more advanced surfing try Echo Beach, just a few hundred meters further northwest.
Why not take it easy for a day on your Canggu honeymoon? The Lawn (Batu Bolong Beach) and La Brisa (Echo Beach) are two great beach clubs to relax together overlooking the Indian Ocean. At the Lawn you have a great view of the waves and it is a great spot to watch the sunset. At the lovely styled La Brisa, you’ll find simple Spanish food, tasty cocktails, palm trees swaying, and a hot soundtrack that plays well with the sound of the waves in the background. If you are staying on the Berawa side of Canggu, a fancy beach club to consider visiting is Finns.
After midnight, visit the party at Sand Bar to experience the ultimate Canggu vibes with your partner. A simple wooden shed on Batu Bolong Beach that sells drinks during the day, turns into a spectacular beach party after midnight. Imagine partying barefoot on the beach, feeling a cool breeze and hearing waves smashing against the rocks.
As you drive around Canggu, you will see many restaurants offering great healthy food. Canggu is all about conscious and healthy living, which is why many expats and digital nomads love Canggu. Crate Cafe is a Canggu favorite with industrial-chic interiors, bold murals, and great affordable lunch options. It’s on a quiet lane just off Batu Bolong, but the place can get crowded (you might need to wait in line for a seat).
Canggu is also the only place on the island with a craft beer culture. If you and your partner love high quality craft beers, visiting Black Sand Brewery is a great idea!
Most roads in Bali run north to south. A result of the ridges running in that direction due to the volcanic nature of Bali. Going from Batu Bolong to Berawa is therefore not super easy. To get to the Berawa area from Batu Bolong, you can drive or walk through the rice fields on a narrow shortcut. There is a 15-minute detour that cars have to take because they can’t use the shortcut. This part of Bali is a little quieter, but it has a lot of great restaurants and is an excellent place to stay if you want to combine Canggu with Seminyak.
In both Batu Bolong and Berawa, there are markets and boutique stores that are great places for shopping. Canggu is a very fashionable place - people are very conscious of the way they look and dress. It explains why there are so many great boutique stores around town.
We want to end with a little warning. Canggu has been growing a lot in the last few years, and it’s one of the most crowded places on the island. There used to be a lot of rice fields near Canggu, but the area is urbanizing fast. We love Canggu, but think it’s important to know what to expect. Old articles online talk about Canggu being a little fishing town - those days are over!
Honeymoon Hotels in Canggu
Canggu has excellent luxury resorts and romantic hotel options suitable for a honeymoon, which are more reasonably priced than the most fancy hotels in Seminyak. We recommend staying near the beach, either in the Batu Bolong neighborhood, which is the most lively, or in the Berawa area, which is a little quieter and conveniently positioned between Canggu and Seminyak.
If you don’t like moving around, Canggu can be a great base for your holiday. It is possible to explore the rest of the island through day-trips starting and ending in your Canggu Hotel.

How to get to Canggu
It only takes one hour to get to Canggu by taxi from the airport, however this might be slightly longer due to traffic. Being quite close to the airport, Canggu serves as an excellent beginning point or ending destination for your honeymoon. It is easiest to schedule a taxi transfer with your hotel or make a reservation in advance (slightly cheaper than most hotel transfers). On the other hand, if you arrange a taxi on the spot at the airport, you will almost always be charged more money.
