Why Honeymoon in Sanur?
Sanur is home to one of Bali’s most stunning white sand beaches. If you like to swim in a calm ocean, hold hands while walking along a 8-kilometer shoreline, and eat good healthy foods at al beachfront dining establishments - then Sanur is definitely worth checking out! Located only 20 minutes away from the airport, it is no wonder that Sanur has become a popular choice for couples, especially those looking for a relaxing first destination just after arriving in Bali.
In Sanur, we suggest staying in either one of the Sumitra Luxury Villas (picture above), a super small resort with beachfront private pool villas, or for those favoring a larger resort the beautifully designed beachfront Andaz Bali Hotel (operated by Hyatt). Scroll down for more hotel tips ;-).
Let’s explore Sanur! As the beach is facing East, Sanur is one of the best spots to catch the early morning sunrise in Bali. Sanur not only offers tranquility but also boasts calm and gentle ocean waves. Those that dislike the big waves and wild ocean of Canggu and Seminyak will enjoy the calm ocean waters of Sanur. It’s a good choice for couples looking to relax and disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. What we like about Sanur is that you can walk a long path all the way along the shore, allowing you a sneak peak into the many resorts aligning the coast. Many restaurants and some local souvenir shops can be found along this path too.
Sanur is especially popular with older couples and those looking for a calmer authentic stay conveniently located close to the airport or the ferries to Nusa Penida Island. Do note that you won’t find (much) nightlife here, but you want to wake up early anyway to catch the magical sunrise, painting the sky with vibrant colors! The stunning backdrop will create lasting memories of your romantic escape. While it’s true that Sanur tends to pull you in with its relaxed atmosphere, Sanur is also a good base to explore more of Bali. Many Bali day trips can start from Sanur, and as the ferries to Nusa Penida Island leave from Sanur, it is even possible to do a daytrip to that island with its famous cliffs and beaches, which we highly recommend (you can book it here).

Walk the Sanur promenade
BeachSanur BeachAlong the 8 kilometer long Sanur shoreline you'll find a walking path (cars and motorbikes are not allowed), which is great for a walk in the early morning or evening (it gets really hot during the day). Along the path you will find restaurants, cafe's, souvenir shops and places that organize water activities like stand-up-paddle and canoe rental.
-
Water sports in Sanur
ActiveBeachSanur BeachAs the seawater in Sanur is usually very calm, especially compared to the South Bali surf beaches of Canggu and Uluwatu, it is great for laid-back watersports like canoeing and standup paddle. Across the beachline you will find multiple shops and hotel resorts offering rentals.

Instagram Highlights Tour from Sanur
NatureCultureDaytripGroup tourPrivate tourPick-up in your Sanur HotelThe Instagram Highlights tour is an amazing choice for (aspiring) influencers, but don't worry if you and your partner prefer to live a more private life: it is a great opportunity to see the most scenic parts of Bali and get some memorable pictures of your honeymoon regardless. You can choose between a small group tour and a private tour.
Highlights include the Lempuyang Temple (also known as Gate of Heaven) in East Bali, as well as the Tirta Gangga water palace. In Central Bali, the tour will pass the Tukad Cepung Waterfall and Tegallalang rice fields, where it is possible to take pictures on while riding a spectacular "Jungle Swing". East Bali Waterfall, Beach and Canyoning tour.
NatureBeachThrillGroup tourStart from your Sanur HotelA lot of water fun in a single day in the off-the-beaten path East Bali region. That is what this small group tour offers. You will be visiting a beautiful waterfall which is great for swimming (Tegenungan Waterfall), the scenic Blue Lagoon beach famous for snorkling (but also known for the monkeys roaming around), and a hidden canyon through which a river flows.
At the canyon, you will participate in canyoning activities, and at the Blue Lagoon Beach you will have the opportunity to snorkel with gear provided. Blue Lagoon Beach, near Padang Bai where the ferries to Lombok depart, is a fairly small beach, but we love it as it's surrounded by greenery and not very crowded.

Romantic Dining in Sanur
Sanur is not known as the fine dining hotspot of Bali. For that, you’ll have more luck in Ubud or Seminyak. However there are some great casual restaurants, a few higher end dining spots that we like in some of the beach resorts, and a lot of local foods to try (we recommend visiting the night market!).

Byrdhouse Bali
CocktailsBeach clubItalianNorth Sanur BeachAs close as it gets to a beachclub in Sanur. Byrdhouse is a spacious beachfront venue with beautiful architecture and a large garden. A great place to enjoy sipping on cocktails while enjoying the view over the beach. You can go here just for a drink, or try some of the Italian food that they offer. We are addicted to burrata salad and theirs was really good.

Make sure to reserve and ask for a table overlooking the ocean.

Coco Bistro
Casual diningSanur BeachThe food here is decent, simple seafood and international dishes. However we like this place mostly for the view over the sea, as it is located right on the beach. From 5PM onwards this is where you can find authentic Balinese and Indonesian food stalls selling food and drinks to locals as well as visitors. Popular dishes to try out are sate ayam (grilled chicken skewers with peanut sauce), nasi goreng (Indonesian Fried Rice) and the sweet Martabak Terang Bulan dessert, a thick traditional pancake that can be filled with chocolate, peanuts and other toppings.
